Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to report several positive developments within WFNN. The
first concerns you, our members and our most valuable resource. We
now have members from 27 countries or member organizations! The enthusiasm
for WFNN and its mission was evident in the nearly 195 abstracts
submitted to the Scientific Committee from six continents for blind
review for our upcoming Congress. With such diverse geographical
representation, we expect the WFNN Congress in May, 2009 to be our
best Congress to date. At the end of this letter is a listing of
approximately 20 countries that will be represented.
As we make plans for the Congress meeting, a celebration of WFNN
being an organization for 40 years, I would like to call your attention
to several concepts being introduced for the first time during a
WFNN Congress:
1. A mentorship program. This program will provide an opportunity
for the novice nurse to meet with a volunteer experienced neuroscience
nurse to discuss ideas for nursing interventions, programs, or research
projects. Sign-up for this free program will be available on the
Congress registration form.
2. Clinical symposia. In hopes of developing solid partnerships
with members of industry, we plan on having symposia that will
target specific areas of interest for caregivers and industry.
These focused symposia will provide the opportunity for industry
to sponsor key focus group sessions where we can partner together
and discuss options for best patient care practices, pharmaceuticals, & devices.
3. Multidisciplinary sessions. In acknowledgment that we care
for complex patients who require a variety of health care needs,
colleagues from physical, occupational, and speech therapy will
be co-presenters and attendees.
4. Agnes Marshall Research Award: The deadline is fast approaching
for WFNN members to submit their research grant application. Please
visit the website at www.wfnn.nu for additional information.
5. The first ever International Career Fair designed solely for
neuroscience nurses. Attendees are invited to bring their resumes/CVs/vita
and discuss career opportunities in the global marketplace with
attending organizations/institutions/hospitals.
Begin to make your plans now to network with other nurses and colleagues
that share a similar passion towards excellence in neuroscience
patient care by attending the WFNN Congress in May, 2009. Additional
information can be found on the Congress website at:

In anticipation of a very successful meeting ahead of us, I remain
truly yours,
